More than four years after the company’s role in the 2019 Whakaari tragedy, White Island Tours Limited was placed into liquidation on Friday.The company ferried tourists to the volcano, north of Whakatāne, on Dec 9, 2019 when 22 people lost their lives and 25 were injured. In June 2023, White Island Tours pleaded guilty to two charges laid by WorkSafe after an investigation into the eruption.It was fined $517,000 and ordered to pay $5 million in reparations to the victims and their families.Chartered accountants and license...
