The New Zealand sharemarket – which has long struggled with a weakening economy and tight monetary policy – hit a 17-month high as some of the leading stocks came to the party late in the day.The S&P/NZX 50 Index gained strong momentum mid-afternoon and closed at 12,184.49, up 61.34 points or 0.51% after reaching an intraday low of 12,085.65.
