The S&P/NZX 50 Index surged 2.5 percent in early trading, following a strong lead from Wall Street after presidential hopeful Joe Biden took the lead in the race to become the Democratic Party's nominee.Benchmark US indices all closed at least 3 percent higher overnight, with the S&P 500 up 4.2 percent.
