Rain, Methanex gas deal bring wholesale power price relief

Wholesale electricity prices have fallen since generators secured gas from Methanex and rain stopped the decline in the hydro lakes.The Electricity Authority’s (EA) latest security of supply assessment says there is currently enough stored energy (coal, water and gas) in the system to get through the winter.“Fuel supply and generation capacity will be sufficient to meet national demand,” the EA said.While national hydro storage is still low by historical standards, it has not deteriorated and increased slightly over the last w...
