New Zealand Exchange-listed advanced parts manufacturer Rakon says the semiconductor industry is monitoring quartz supply after Hurricane Helene hit a US town where two large mines are. Hurricane Helene damaged Spruce Pine in North Carolina, and quartz mining companies, The Quartz Corporation and Sibelco, halted production. The quartz from the companies is used to manufacture semiconductors. Quartz from Spruce Pine was used almost exclusively for crucibles, or vessels, which have silicon poured into them to create thin slices of...
