Nothing is off the table in the search for alternative fuels at Golden Bay's Portland site. The Fletcher Building-owned cement manufacturer is replacing coal with used tyres and unused covid waste, such as masks and tests, as it aims to displace more than 70% of its previous coal use within the next six months.Since 2021, Golden Bay has used about 80,000 tonnes of tyres in its manufacturing process at Portland, which it said was the equivalent of diverting about 8 million car tyres from landfills.The cement manufacturer’s Northla...
