A new self-identification process to amend the sex registered on a New Zealand birth certificate is now live on the Department of Internal Affairs website.The self-identification provisions in the Births, Deaths, Marriages, and Relationships Registration Act and supporting regulations came into force on Thursday, allowing those with a NZ birth certificate to apply to amend their registered sex through a simple statutory declaration process.Prior to the legislation being changed, gender-diverse people had to apply to the family court with proof...
