Govt move to control ETS will slow new forestry, say owners

The Forest Owners Association (FOA) has taken climate change minister James Shaw to task for proposals to "decouple" the emissions trading scheme (ETS) from forestry.Last week, Shaw said the government was reviewing how forestry was treated under the ETS, with the option of the government becoming the exclusive buyer of carbon credits, known as New Zealand Units (NZUs), from forest owners. That would give it more power to control emissions, control their price and avoid a glut of forest credits. It also follows recommendatio...
