Retail spending remains strong in July

Retail card spending in the hospitality sector hit the strongest level for a July month ever. “While accommodation spending remains low, New Zealanders’ increased spending on eating out throughout the July month has boosted the hospitality industry,” Stats NZ retail statistics manager Kathy Hicks said.Accommodation spending was down $30 million, or 16 percent, compared with July 2019.However, at the combined hospitality industry level, retail card spending bounced $62 million, or 5.9 percent, compared with July 2019.This...
