Big fuel suppliers get biofuel mandate – but details unclear

The government has confirmed it will bring in a biofuels mandate taking effect from April 2023, but there are as yet no details on how it will work or how ministers believe the energy sector can achieve it.Energy minister Megan Woods and transport minister Michael Wood said in a release the mandate will apply to fuel wholesalers.“From 1 April 2023, fuel wholesalers are expected to reach a starting emissions reduction target of 1.2%, which will increase to 2.4% in 2024 and to 3.5% in 2025.”The mandate works by ensuring fuel, such as...
