New Zealand’s electricity sector doesn’t have a problem managing dry-year risk but is well-placed to address it longer term if required, departing Electricity Authority chairman Brent Layton said.While the country had to deal with “quite a number” of dry-year events in the early 2000s, Layton said the industry’s ability to manage through periods of low hydro storage had improved. “They have not re-occurred even though we have had drier years.
