The government has agreed to phase out low user fixed charge electricity tariffs, with power companies stumping up $5 million to smooth the path for low income households that might be hit by the change.The Low Fixed Charge Tariff Option for households was introduced in 2004 after concerns that those using less electricity were paying too much for power.The regulations require a low fixed lines charge tariff to be offered of no more than $0.30/day where a bill has a fixed charge component.Low use is defined as 8,000kWh/year or 9,000kWh/year in...
