Govt sidesteps decision on Ports of Auckland relocation

The government has deferred its decision on the preferred location for Ports of Auckland’s freight operations until after the September election, blaming the distraction of the covid-19 response.The announcement comes on the back of a just-released report by economic consultancy Sapere, paid for by the Ministry of Transport, which provides a cost-benefit analysis of moving the country’s second largest port to Northport, the Port of Tauranga, a combination of the two or new ports in either the Firth of Thames or Manukau Harbour.While...
