Kāinga Ora has more than quadrupled its spend on prefabs since the 2020 financial year, but the industry fears these gains will be halted with the agency returning to a landlord role. In the 2020 financial year, Kāinga Ora (KO) spent $31.3 million on offsite manufacturing (OSM) solutions – about 5% of its $564m total spend on construction suppliers, according to figures released under the Official Information Act (OIA). By the 2024 financial year, the agency’s OSM spending had shot up to $144.7m – about 9% of its $1....
