Meat sector extends season, may cart stock between islands

New Zealand’s major meat companies say they will extend the processing season and add production chains at some plants to ensure they get through current backlogs.The country’s largest processor, Silver Fern Farms, said there was also the prospect of carting stock between islands and regions to make better use of processing capacity.Silver Fern, which operates 14 plants across the country, said it would be operating daily overtime and Saturday kills for the “foreseeable future” and could defer planned maintenance and seasonal shutdowns.Chief ex...
