Christchurch Airport spends $45m on potential Central Otago airport

Christchurch Airport says it has spent $45 million, including the purchase of a 750-hectare parcel of land, as it flies a plan to situate a new ‘world class’ airport near the Central Otago farming community of Tarras. Chief executive Malcolm Johns said discussions will now begin to construct the airport, boasting a 2.2 kilometre, jet-capable runway, on a site at the junction of State Highways 8 and 8A, between Wanaka and fast-growing Cromwell.
