Housing consents continue to track down, off 26%

New home consents slid 28% year-on-year to 1,991 dwellings nationally in January, its lowest for the month in five years, Statistics NZ said.That took overall new residential build approvals to 36,453 over the past 12 months, which is down 26% on the comparable year. Auckland's numbers were down 28% overall at 15,309 consents, with Wellington recording the biggest drop, 41% to 2,326 homes.Stand-alone approvals, at 959 dwellings, were down 16% on January 2023, the lowest level in 12 years. Of the 1,092...
