Lockdown does little to curb demand as Auckland house sales jump 44%

Mortgage brokers and banks were flat out in August keeping up with demand for property, as house sales climbed almost 25 percent to 7,652 last month from a year earlier to record the highest number of sales for an August in five years. Real Estate Institute of New Zealand data showed Auckland's level 3 restrictions did little to dent demand, with the number of properties sold in the city jumping by 44.2 percent to 2,612. Activity in the rest of the country was slightly more sedate, up 16.7 percent at 5,040 from the same month a year earlier....
