Smartpay customer information stolen in ransomware attack

Payments system operator Smartpay has had customer information stolen in a ransomware attack that affected some of its New Zealand systems last week. The company said it’s working with government authorities and hired cybersecurity firm CyberCX to contain the incident after discovering it on Saturday, and on Friday confirmed the information theft relating to a group of customers in Australia and NZ. “Understanding the contents and extent of that data theft is now the highest priority of our investigation,” it said in...
