‘Smash and grabs’: Michael Hill to close Whakatāne store

Before market close on Friday, Michael Hill said it will shut down its Whakatāne store due to a “heightened number of break and enters and smash and grabs”.The store in Whakatāne’s central shopping district, The Strand, will indefinitely close on June 29.The closure comes “despite the jeweller’s investment in upscaling security measures at the Whakatāne store, including fog cannons, additional security cameras, alarm screamers and personal alarms for staff”, Michael Hill said.Chief executive Daniel Bracken sa...
