The Commerce Commission is zeroing in on the impact of the proposed Vocus/2degrees merger on the provision of mobile telephony by so-called ‘mobile virtual network operators’ (MVNOs).While MVNOs make up only 1.4% of all mobile connections, the merger would nonetheless allow the vertical integration of the largest MVNO provider, Vocus, with an existing mobile provider, 2degrees.The commission will examine “in particular, whether the proposed merger may make coordination between mobile network owners around the provision of whol...
