Waikato DHB cyber-attack follows familiar global pattern

Cybersecurity experts say the attack on Waikato DHB’s IT systems was likely made through the in-vogue ransomware tool called Conti.Bruce Armstrong, director of cybersecurity company Darkscope, told BusinessDesk the tool is a trojan virus that is deployed via an attachment into an IT system to encrypt servers. The method threatens to expose sensitive data as well as encrypt it.He said it is possible the attack is the work of Russian cyber-crime organisation Wizard Spider, who this month successfully attacked the Irish Department of Health...
