A proposal to ban organic waste from going to landfills would require councils to massively ramp up composting and kerbside collection services. The emissions reduction plan discussion document released on Tuesday includes a section on reducing emissions in the waste sector. Waste disposal and treatment accounts for about 4% of gross emissions, mostly made up of methane from decomposing organic waste. The Climate Change Commission has recommended reducing methane emissions from waste to at least 40% below 2017 levels by 2035.&nbs...
