BusinessDesk has today been advised by NZME that all conditions for our proposed sale have been met.

BusinessDesk will become an NZME brand on Jan 17, 2022.

For our subscribers, this should mean little or no difference.

Our news team will be the same, with journalists, columnists and contributors remaining with us under the new ownership.

The BusinessDesk team stays in its offices in Auckland and Wellington (with other reporters in Hamilton, Christchurch and Queenstown).

We’d like to thank all of our subscribers, readers and advertisers who’ve helped us grow to such an extent in the 20 months since the launch of businessdesk.co.nz as a subscription news service.

In the original NZX announcement, NZME chief executive Michael Boggs said, “NZME’s acquisition of BusinessDesk will help supercharge their growth and realise the full potential of the opportunity to support New Zealand’s business community. The BusinessDesk team should be proud of what they have created in a short period of time. NZME will be able to provide both BusinessDesk and NZ Herald Premium subscribers with incredibly comprehensive and trusted business news to its consumer and business customers.”

In the new year, we’ll further strengthen our news team with the addition of two journalism cadets and experienced journalist, author and podcaster Frances Cook, who joins as personal finance editor.

We’ll also welcome the exemplary Victoria Young back from maternity leave.
