Westpac has announced the appointment of Anthony Miller as its new group chief executive officer and managing director.

Miller, who is currently the chief executive of Westpac's business and wealth division, will assume the role on December 16, 2024.

He will succeed Peter King, who is set to retire after a 30-year career at Westpac, including five years as CEO.

Westpac chair, Steven Gregg, in an announcement to the ASX, expressed confidence in Miller, describing him as an "exceptional leader" with deep expertise in financial services.

Miller previously was CEO of Australia/NZ and co-head of investment bank APAC, at Deutsche Bank, as well as a partner at Goldman Sachs.
