Briscoe Group has reported a 1.03% increase in unaudited sales for the first quarter of the financial year 2024.

Sales for the 91-day period ending on April 28 amounted to $183 million, up from $181.2m in the same quarter last year.

The company's homeware segment, however, experienced a 1.09% decrease in sales, which totalled $108.7m.

On the other hand, sporting goods sales saw a 4.28% increase to $74.3m.

Briscoe Group's managing director, Rod Duke, expressed satisfaction with the first quarter sales and highlighted the team's efforts to connect with customers and control inventory.

Duke also acknowledged the ongoing challenges in the retail environment and anticipated a tough remainder of the year for the New Zealand retail sector.
