Chatham Rock Phosphate has been granted a mining permit for the Korella North mine in Queensland.
The permit, issued by the Queensland Minister of Mines, will allow for the immediate commencement of small-scale production at the mine.
The Korella North mine, 160km southeast of Mt Isa, is expected to create 50 construction and operational jobs.
The phosphate produced at the mine will initially be sold to the domestic farm market, with a focus on supplying the needs of cotton and cropping farmers in the north.
The highest-grade rock is expected to be exported for battery manufacture.
Chatham Rock Phosphate said it intends to use local services, providing a further boost to the northwest Queensland economy.
