Chatham Rock Phosphate has been asked by the New Zealand government to apply for the Chatham Rise rock phosphate project to be considered for the fast-track consenting process.
The invitation comes as the government is currently reviewing the Fast-Track Approvals Bill, which aims to improve the speed and process for resource approvals of major infrastructure projects.
If the Chatham Rise project is included in the list, it could potentially result in a quicker permitting process, reduced costs, and a more certain outcome.
The company said the application is being prepared and will be submitted before the May 3 deadline.
The Chatham Rise phosphate project is located off the coast of New Zealand and is considered to be of national significance.
