Chatham Rock Phosphate Limited's wholly-owned Australian subsidiary, Pacific Rare Earths, has been granted an exploration permit for selenium prospects in Queensland's Tambo region.

The 196 square kilometre area is known to contain outcropping beds of the seleniferous Toolebuc Formation, and selenium is recognised by the Queensland Government as a New Economy Mineral.

Selenium is found in both its inorganic and organic forms, and has applications in new technologies, fertilizers and supplements.
