Downer EDI has announced its intention to vigorously defend itself against allegations of historical contraventions of competition law made by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

The ACCC has commenced civil proceedings related to estate maintenance services provided to the Department of Defence by Downer's subsidiary, Spotless, and two other organisations, BGIS and Ventia.

The ACCC alleges that the conduct in question occurred in 2019 and 2020.

Downer, however, maintains that neither Spotless nor the two Spotless employees referred to by the ACCC engaged in unlawful conduct.

The company expressed its commitment to acting in accordance with the standards that have defined its relationship with Defence.
