The Supreme Court has handed down a judgment on the judicial review brought by a group of hotel owners and operators against the Accommodation Provider Targeted Rate (APTR) imposed by Auckland Council.

Millennium & Copthorne Hotels New Zealand Limited (MCK) has expressed disappointment with the decision, stating that it is unfair and inequitable and could have longer term implications for hotel owners and ratepayers.

MCK supports investigating alternative funding options and is prepared to contribute to the solution, but believes it is unfair to have hotel owners solely shoulder the burden.

MCK has confirmed that any costs award arising from the judicial review action would not materially impact its financial position.
