Electricity generator and retailer, Mercury NZ, has reported a reduction in hydro generation for the quarter ended Dec 31 2023.

This was due to lower quartile inflows in the Waikato catchment, with hydro generation decreasing by 28% to 928 gigawatt-hours (GWh), compared to the same period last year.

However, wind generation saw an increase of 49% to 579 GWh, primarily driven by new wind generation from the Turitea South and Kaiwera Downs 1 wind farms.

Mercury also highlighted the successful completion of the Gentrack billing system migration.

Looking ahead, the company said it is forecasting full hydro generation of 4,000 GWh for the financial year.
