New Zealand King Salmon (NZK) has received a positive aquaculture decision for its Blue Endeavour open ocean farm.

Fisheries New Zealand, a part of the Ministry for Primary Industries, assessed the effects of the proposed farm on fishing through the undue adverse effects test.

According to NZK, a proposed marine farm cannot proceed if it would have "undue" adverse effects as defined by the process.

The decision will be gazetted on 16 January 2024, and will be followed by a 30-working day judicial review period.

If a judicial review is not sought, NZK will be able to give effect to its already granted resource consent after the review period ends, which is estimated to be 28 February 2024.
