NZME has announced the appointment of Steven Joyce as the new chair of the company, effective immediately.

Joyce, who was appointed as an independent director at NZME's annual shareholders' meeting, brings extensive business leadership and governance experience.

He has a background in the media and government sectors, having established and built RadioWorks NZ over 14 years.

Joyce also served as the campaign chair for the National Party and was a government minister for nine years, including the role of Minister of Finance.

He is currently an independent director of Winton Land, The Icehouse, and Icehouse Ventures, as well as an independent board advisor to project management firm RCP New Zealand.

Joyce replaces Barbara Chapman, who resigned from the position.
