Chorus announces Drew Davies as Chief Operating Officer

Chorus has today announced that Drew Davies has been appointed to the role of Chief Operating Officer from 14 October 2024, filling the role left vacant when Mark Aue was appointed Chorus Chief Executive Officer in April this year. As COO Mr Davies will have responsibility for all financial functions along with strategy, brand and marketing, customer experience and customer engagement.

Mr Davies has more than 30 years’ global experience in telecommunications, holding executive roles with 2degrees, multinational mobile telecommunications company Trilogy Partners, and senior financial and operational roles with T-Mobile in the United States. Most recently Mr Davies was CFO of Rakon.

“I am delighted to have Drew joining our team at an exciting time of change for Chorus,” said CEO Mark Aue. “Drew brings deep telecommunications and business leadership experience. Having worked closely with him at 2degrees I’m confident that his mix of operational, financial and commercial acumen will help accelerate Chorus’ strategy as we strive to become a simpler all-fibre business.”

Board Chair Mark Cross said: “The Chorus Board warmly welcomes Drew to Chorus. His deep industry experience will enhance our understanding of the market landscape and the needs of our customers and retail partners. We look forward to continuing our focus on capital discipline and efficiency under Drew’s leadership.”

Mr Davies says “I am excited to join Chorus as I have truly admired the world class broadband connectivity solutions they have enabled across Aotearoa. I look forward to joining the leadership team and helping to execute the refreshed strategy as Chorus enters the next phase in its journey, in what has already been a very successful story to date”.”

Mr Davies will be based in Auckland.

Mr Aue thanked Executive members Katrina Smidt and Darren McLean for taking on the roles of acting CFO and acting Chief Customer Officer respectively. “Katrina and Darren were both strong contributors to the Chorus Executive during our strategy rollout and are valued members of the Chorus senior leadership team” said Mr Aue.

Effective from Mr Davies appointment, Ms Smidt will return to her substantive role as Deputy CFO and Mr McLean resumes his role as Head of Customer Engagement. Both will report to Mr Davies with the Deputy CFO role continuing as part of the Executive team.
