Government announces New Zealand Energy Package

Contact Energy Limited (Contact) acknowledges today’s announcement, by the New Zealand Government, of steps it will take to support the energy transition.

The announcement has been made alongside the release of the Government-commissioned Review of Electricity Market Performance prepared by global consultancy, Frontier Economics.

“We support any initiatives that accelerate electrification and that explore opportunities to manage the energy transition to a renewable future in an orderly way,” said CEO Mike Fuge.

“We will take time to review and consider the Government’s proposals over the coming weeks. We welcome the clarity that today’s announcement has provided and look forward to constructive engagement.”

In line with its strategy to be a leader in the decarbonisation of New Zealand, Contact is a major contributor to energy investment, having committed more than $2 billion to building the critical energy infrastructure New Zealand needs.
