AgResearch to study breakdown of wool fibres in seawater as microfibre threat grows

By Jonathan Underhill Jan. 29 (BusinessDesk) - Crown research institutes AgResearch and Scion are to embark on a study of how woollen clothing and carpet biodegrades in seawater - research which may boost the appeal of the natural fibre as concern grows about synthetic microfibres entering the food chain. The study comes out of AgResearch's core funding, initially running for 90 days, and goes to the CRI's mandate to demonstrate the sustainability of products that come from the farm, spokesman Jarrod Booker said.
