As most people hope for sunny and settled weather over summer, a small band will be praying for rain and wind aplenty to keep the lights on next winter.Last winter, the electricity system survived several tight spots where demand almost outstripped supply through a mix of good management and good luck.The system operator, Transpower, has already warned that the coming winter will be as risky as the last, even with the hydro lakes at normal levels.
