The Climate Change Commission’s assumptions on near-term electricity prices are “overly optimistic” and risk creating the impression that decarbonising the economy is going to be easy, Genesis Energy says.The commission, which has suggested raising the cap on carbon prices in the emissions trading scheme to $70 a tonne as soon as possible — from $50 now — and then to $140 by 2030, doesn’t appear to understand the impact higher carbon prices will have on electricity prices during the next three to five years,...
