New research has uncovered more than 10,000 ‘economically significant’ Māori-owned businesses, some 8,800 more than had previously been known to exist.However, the project for the Ministry of Māori Development, Te Puni Kōkiri, still shows that Māori-owned businesses, at about 6 percent of the national total of some 160,000 active businesses, are a smaller proportion than the Māori proportion population as a whole.Māori now make up about 16.7 percent of the New Zealand population, according to population estimates released by Statist...
