Most large businesses, banks, insurers and investment funds will be required to disclose their greenhouse gas emissions from the start of the 2022 financial year under legislation introduced into Parliament today.The law change comes as the latest emissions data shows little progress has been made towards meeting the government’s goal of ‘zero carbon’ by 2050.The 2021 Greenhouse Gas Inventory shows gross emissions were 82.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (Mt CO2-e) in 2019, up 2% from 2018.
