The government has given itself three years to reform resource management law.On Wednesday, parliament passed under urgency a law repealing the Natural and Built Environment Act (NBA) and the Spatial Planning Act (SPA).These laws replaced the 1991 Resource Management Act (RMA) in 2023, after six years and about $250 million of work.The minister for RMA reform, Chris Bishop, said the repeal was not ideal as everyone accepted that “the RMA is not fit for purpose in its current form”.However, the two laws had created a system for conse...
