Antibiotic resistance, safer solvents, taniwha and an enormous fake carrot are some of the research targets for this year's $77.4 million pot of Marsden Fund awards.The fund, established in 1994 to support fundamental blue-sky research, selected 113 three-year projects in science, maths, engineering, humanities and mātauranga – traditional Māori knowledge.Applications were down this year, with 901 proposals, compared with 1,152 in 2021. Last year, $82.3m in funding was awarded to 120 projects.
