The Commerce Commission’s study of retail fuel competition is expected to have cost about two-thirds more than was budgeted for that type of market study.Commission chair Anna Rawlings told MPs today that the cost of the fuel study, the first under new powers granted to the competition regulator in 2018, was still being calculated, but would be “in the order of about $2.5 million.”The commission was funded for the new work, assuming it could probably complete one study annually at a cost of about $1.5 million each.The fuel study, reported back...
