Port of Tauranga is more than doubling the cost of sending a container by rail to MetroPort in Auckland as it seeks to recover costs imposed by KiwiRail.The port sent an advisory to customers on July 1 saying it would be introducing a new site-access and vehicle-booking system (VBS) fee of $135 per container from Sept 1, as well as a rail recovery charge billed directly to shipping lines.“We acknowledge that this is a significant change for our customers and we make it reluctantly,” the advisory said.“However, the current tari...
