NZ Steel looks to reduce commodity export grades

New Zealand Steel is looking to re-tool parts of its Glenbrook operation to increase production of steel plate and reduce sales of less profitable products. The company yesterday began formal consultation with its 1,400 staff on a plan to reset the operation to focus more on the domestic market and reduce sales – particularly of hot rolled coil – for export.
