Oil explorer gets offshore ban escape route

Greymouth Petroleum can reapply for an oil exploration permit off the Taranaki coast where new exploration has been banned since 2018, thanks to a High Court decision.The company would also be allowed to seek a mining permit if it discovers a commercial oil or gas field there.Greymouth had applied in 2017 for a permit to explore the Okoki structure, west of Pohokura, the country’s biggest gas field.
