OMV has been cleared by the Environmental Protection Authority to drill a well off the Otago coast this summer.The company, which operates the Maui and Pohokura gas fields, is currently drilling off Taranaki. It plans to dispatch the drilling rig, the COSL Prospector, to the South Island to drill Tawhaki-1, about 146 kilometres south-east of Balclutha.The well lies in 1,300 metres of water so is not especially deep by world or New Zealand standards.
