Penlink highway delayed to 2028 due to 'complex' bridge

A new highway costing more than $800 million, which was meant to be finished in late 2026, has been delayed to 2028 due to complications with a novel bridge design.The previous Government funded Penlink, a 7-kilometre road connecting State Highway 1 north of Auckland to the Whangaparāoa Peninsula, as part of its New Zealand Upgrade Programme, a covid-era stimulus package.The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) website states the current budget is $830m.NTZA has proactively released a briefing it gave to ministers on Aug 5 about the project, saying the a...
