An improved prudent discount policy for electricity transmission should be advanced “as a matter of urgency,” Contact Energy says.Rio Tinto wants a lower transmission bill for the Tiwai Point aluminium smelter and has asked the government and the Electricity Authority to review the way national grid operator Transpower applies the current discount policy.Contact, which is working with Meridian Energy to try and keep the smelter viable, has urged the authority to move quickly on a revision.
